Shared Information System (SIS)
The Shared Information System software is used to benchmark casemix data for all the hospitals that submit data to the national casemix funding model. Each hospital funded under casemix has agreed to share its data at an aggregate level. In the casemix inpatient model this comparison occurs at a Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) level. For the elective daycase model, information is compared at a similarly grouped level. The information can also be compared over a series of years allowing hospitals to examine trends in their casemix.
Hospitals participating in the casemix model are partitioned into a series of four groups to enable differences in the model to be determined on a peer group basis. The groups are: the teaching hospitals, the general non teaching hospitals, the large maternity hospitals and the paediatric hospitals. These four hospital groupings are replicated in the Shared Information System (SIS). This makes it easier to use this system to compare similar hospitals thus making such comparisons more relevant.
